In the summer of 1930, Alban Berg used the royalties from the success of his opera Wozzeck to purchase a Ford A, and he arranged for the initials “AHB” (Alban and Helene Berg) to be affixed to both doors. Berg’s car is a rare, blue-black convertible with fold-away seats from model year 1930. Preserved in its original state, the car was woken from its almost 80-year slumber by the Alban Berg Foundation in 2015/16. The “blaue Vogel” [blue bird] is in a largely authentic condition and can be driven. From 2016 to 2022 the Ford A was on show at the Technical Museum in Vienna. Numerous letters and documents, and also other items owned by Alban Berg/the Foundation are evidence of an eventful “auto”biography.
