We are mourning the first recipient of the Alban Berg Ring, Prof. Friedrich Cerha, who has passed away a few days before his 97th birthday.

His completion of the opera Lulu forges a lasting connection between Friedrich Cerha and the name Alban Berg, and his masterpieces such as Spiegel, Ein Netzwerk, Baal and Der Riese vom Steinfeld guarantee his unwavering position in music history.

The Alban Berg Foundation owes him an immense debt of gratitude.
